stuck on something? here’s how things work. quick answers are in the questions on the home page.
add the widget
on iPhone:
- touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
- tap Edit, then Add Widget.
- search for bread.
- pick small or medium, then tap Add Widget.
- open bread and choose which slice the widget shows: tap widget under a slice and turn on Show on widget, or touch and hold a slice and choose Show on widget.
make and share a slice
- in bread, make a slice and pick your bread.
- add a photo. bread cuts out the subject and sticks it on the slice. you can add text and scribbles too.
- to share it, open the slice and tap your little bread at the top to invite. send the link (it looks like breadwidget.com/j/CODE) to your friends.
- friends tap the link, get bread, and they’re on. no account needed.
anyone with the link can join, so only send it to friends you want on the slice.
widget not updating
your iPhone decides when widgets refresh, so a new photo can take a little while to show up. things that help:
- open bread. that refreshes the widget right away.
- friends’ posts also update your widget in the background. this works best with notifications on for bread.
- check that the widget shows the slice you expect (see step 5 above).
- still stuck? remove the widget and add it again.
move to a new phone
usually there’s nothing to do: install bread on the new phone and your slices come back, because your key is backed up in iCloud Keychain.
if they don’t, or you’re switching between iPhone and Android:
- on your old phone, open bread, go to You, then Move to a new phone. a code appears. it only works for a few minutes.
- on your new phone, open bread, tap moving from another phone? and scan the code.
lost your old phone? on the same screen you can save a recovery code (12 words) ahead of time. keep it somewhere safe.
leave a slice or stop sharing
- leave a slice: touch and hold it at home and choose Leave, or tap Leave this slice in the slice’s friends list. you can also take off what you added. if you’re the last one on it, it’s gone for good.
- stop sharing (if you made the slice): open the invite screen and tap Stop sharing. the link stops working.
- remove a friend (if you made the slice): open their card and tap Remove from the slice. they won’t see the slice anymore. what they added stays on the bread.
delete my data
you can delete everything, or just some of it, right in bread. no account to close first.
delete everything
- open bread and go to You.
- tap Delete all my data and confirm.
this removes your name, your slices, everything you added to shared slices, your notification settings, and your sign-in, on every phone. shared slices you made pass to the friend who joined first. you can’t undo it.
don’t have bread anymore? email hello@breadwidget.com with the subject “delete my bread data” and we’ll delete it for you. deleting the app alone doesn’t delete your data.
delete some of it
- a slice: touch and hold it at home and choose Delete.
- something on a slice: open the slice, tap the photo, text or scribble, and delete it.
- a shared slice: leave it, and take off what you added (see above).
what’s kept, and for how long
deleted data is unreachable right away and permanently erased from our storage within 30 days. what other friends added to a shared slice stays with them. more in the privacy policy.
report a problem or content
something broken, or something on a slice that shouldn’t be there? email us. tell us what happened, which slice, and what phone you use, and add a screenshot if you can. you can always leave a slice right away.

we read everything and answer as soon as we can.
