the deal for using bread, in plain words.

the short version

using bread

bread is a home screen widget you share with friends. these terms apply when you use the bread app, its widgets, invite links and this website (together, “bread”). “we” and “us” means the team that runs bread. by using bread, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. if you don’t agree, please don’t use bread.

who can use bread

you must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live sets a higher age for using a service like bread. if you’re under 18, check that a parent or guardian is fine with you using it.

your content

you own what you add to bread: your photo cutouts, text, handwriting and scribbles.

to run bread, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and show your content, only so we can show it to the friends on that slice (and to you) and provide the service. this licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we must keep for a short time as part of normal deletion (see the privacy policy).

only add things you have the right to share. if a photo shows someone else, make sure they’re okay with it being on the slice.

rules

don’t use bread to:

reporting

if you see something on bread that breaks these rules, or that makes you feel unsafe, email hello@breadwidget.com. tell us what it is and which slice it’s on, and include a screenshot if you can. you can also leave a slice at any time.

shared slices

everything on a shared slice can be seen by every friend on it. what a friend adds belongs to that friend.

our rights

we can remove content that breaks these terms or the law, and we can limit or end access to bread for anyone who breaks them or puts others at risk. we may change, pause or stop parts of bread. if we stop bread altogether, we’ll try to give you notice first.

the bread name, logo, app and website design belong to us. these terms don’t give you any rights to them beyond using bread.

bread is provided “as is”

we work hard to keep bread running and safe, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. we can’t promise it will always work, be free of errors, or that widgets will refresh at a particular time (your phone decides when widgets update).

limitation of liability

to the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, arising from your use of bread. our total liability for any claim about bread is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for bread in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars. some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be waived.

app stores

if you download bread from the App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply to that download. Apple and Google aren’t responsible for bread or its content, and aren’t a party to these terms.

changes

we may update these terms. when we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page, and for important changes we’ll let you know in the app. if you keep using bread after a change, you accept the new terms.
